By us,
from us,
for us.
Kaapuia is about how we continue to serve marae, whaanau and hapuu well. It’s our plan to better uphold mana motuhake.
Ki te kotahi te kaakaho ka whati,
ki te kaapuia e kore e whati.
If there is but one toetoe stem it will break,
but if they are together in a bundle they will never break.
– Kiingi Taawhiao
About Kaapuia
Our tupuna awa brings life and wellbeing. Its waters nurture the whenua and sustain us both physically and spiritually. Where it moves to, we know there will be growth and development.
Thirty years after our tribal settlement, we are reminded even more of the need to be like our awa. To move, to grow, to develop.
Our form and shape and the pathways we take are there to service our marae, whaanau and hapuu. However, the landscape for whaanau is changing. The challenges they face are changing, and it is timely for us to consider if our structure best allows us to respond to these challenges.
Kaapuia is a review of our organisational structure. It seeks to bring about transformative change to better service our marae, our whaanau and our hapuu.
As we navigate through this change journey, we continue to be guided by the words of Taawhiao who reminds us to stand together, “Ki te kaapuia ka kore e whati.”
